Request for Proposals for Export Readiness Seminar Series | 01-08-2025

The Western United States Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA) is soliciting proposals from qualified vendors to conduct a series of Export Readiness seminars. These seminars aim to educate and prepare agribusinesses in the Western U.S. on market trends, dynamics, opportunities, and challenges in exporting. Additionally, the seminars are intended to attract companies to participate in WUSATA’s Global Connect events, such as inbound and outbound missions and trade shows.

Selected contractors will conduct seminars twice a month, planned at least 2-3 months ahead of corresponding Global Connect activities. Contractors will also provide customized market infographics tailored to participating companies’ products and conduct one-on-one consultations to address specific export concerns. This contract may be renewed for up to two additional years based on performance.

We encourage you to submit a comprehensive proposal detailing your relevant experience, qualifications, and approach to delivering the outlined scope of work. Proposals should include a breakdown of costs, a summary of your experience, and references.

Decree 248 Changes and the June 30th Deadline | 06-20-2023

See the pdf to view a notification from the USDA regarding Decree 248.

Report Highlights:

"The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has alerted importers that certain overseas facilities should “complete” their registration by June 30, 2023. Facilities seeking to minimize potential trade disruptions should upload relevant information into CIFER by June 23, 2023. Products arriving in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) after June 30 from facilities with registrations that produce certain categories of products and whose registration applications are not “complete” may be at risk of not being able to clear customs. Exporters should work with their suppliers and importers to confirm whether their products are susceptible to the risks associated with the June 30 deadline. Please note that exporters of U.S. meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood products should continue following procedures for exporting to China as outlined by relevant U.S. food safety regulators (i.e., FSIS and FDA)."

Information for Industry Regarding Decree 248 | 06-20-2023

See the pdf to view a notification from the USDA regarding Decree 248.

Report Highlights:

"Exporters are encouraged to verify that their suppliers, production, and/or cold storage facilities are registered with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) prior to shipping food and agricultural products to the People's Republic of China (PRC). If the shipment is detained due to a registration issue, FAS may not be able to facilitate clearing detained shipments. U.S. government agencies are working with the PRC to minimize burdens arising from various registration requirements enumerated in PRC GACC Decree 248. Exporters of U.S. meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood products should continue following procedures outlined by relevant U.S. food safety regulators (i.e., FSIS and FDA)."

Getting to Know Your Overseas Resources | 06-01-2015

Allow us to introduce you...

WUSATA frequently receives questions about where companies can find in-country exporting resources. Our team always points them in the direction of the USDA-Foreign Agriculture Service’s (FAS) Agricultural Trade Offices (ATO) around the world. They have the inside knowledge agribusinesses need to make the most informed and strategic decisions.

One of the primary missions of an ATO is to help exporters market and promote their food and agricultural products. Because of this, WUSATA encourages companies to foster relationships with all of their target market ATOs. These connections can provide important promotional opportunities. The Officers are also excellent at connecting U.S. companies with buyer and trade information, such as answering customs-related questions and providing real-time market trends.

We also strongly recommend that businesses get to know the Foreign Service Nationals (FSNs), as they are citizens of foreign countries who work under each ATO. These front-line administrative personnel also provide in-country food and agriculture industry knowledge and language skills. WUSATA relies on them heavily, as they help organize and run the ATO’s activities.
